Weekly Meal Plan

Weekly Meal Plan

Monday- out to eat for a Birthday dinner!

Tuesday- Taco Tuesday served with guacamole and cauliflower rice

Wednesday- Meatloaf with broccoli and potatoes. I am going to try a new recipe for my Meatloaf this week Bacon Cheeseburger Meatloaf from PaleOMG. If you are looking for Paleo ideas- this blog is the best! Not only will you laugh out loud while reading what she has to say about life, but you will find some amazing recipes!

Thursday- Pork shoulder with asparagus

Friday- Leftovers (I think building in a left over day is key to not wasting food, there is nothing worse than throwing out food so I have found that this is a good way to stop that from happening)

Saturday- Crockpot Swedish Meatballs with zucchini or sweet potato noodles (I like to buy pre-made zucchini or sweet potato noodles. luckily they are easy to find now. Maybe someday I will invest in a gadget that I can make my own)

Sunday- BLEATS ~ these are so yummy! Your standard BLT but add in the E(egg) and the A(avocado)

Meal Plan tip of the week:

Try to set aside some time on the weekend to make several batches of something that you use a lot. For us that would be taco meat! Then freeze it (don’t forget to put a date on it). If you do this with several of your standard meals, when it comes time for your weekly meal plan time~ you already have one done!

To make that process easier I found a handy dandy helper!!

It is this Hands Free Holder

It makes any meal prep easy! The baggie just attaches to the built in clips and you can fill it with whatever you are making.

This works great for things like

  • taco meat
  • chili
  • soup
  • spaghetti meat sauce
  • separating out veggies for the week

Thank you so much for stopping by. Please let me know some of your meal planning ideas.

DIY decorating idea~ “Canvas art” for pennies!

Do you struggle with affordable decorating ideas? One of my go-to places for ideas on a budget or DIY projects is Pinterest. Decorating can be an expensive endeavor~ so whenever I can incorporate a DIY & save some money, I am all for that!  We had an area above the door way into our kitchen, that needed something. So I turned to Pinterest for some ideas. Low and behold I found some ideas using shoe box lids to make an art piece! Could it really work and be that easy? I was willing to try it and find out! Here is what I did…

Supplies needed:

  • Shoe box lids
  • Fabric
  • Hot Glue Gun

So I started with my lids

For each of the lids, I just roughly measured the fabric around the diameter of the lid. I wanted  to have enough to be able to secure it to the back edges. My hot glue gun worked really well for this project. I would just put a little glue and then press my fabric down. Once I got to the opposite side I just pulled tightly so that there was no loose or saggy fabric on the front. You can easily flip it over to check and make sure it is looking the way you want it to.

Once I was done with all 3, I displayed them above the doorway simply leaning it against a shelf.  These would be really simple to hang freely as well.

This project was easy and very inexpensive! The best kind of DIY! What I love about fabric is that it is so versatile. Fabric allows you to customize any decorating style, because there are so many options to choose from!  I happened to have this fabric already so this project literally cost me nothing!!

What are some of your favorite decorating DIY ideas? Do you use Pinterest? I would love to hear your favorite ideas!

Quick lunch

Do you need a quick lunch idea?  If you are like me than the answer is YES! Or at least that is how I would of answered BEFORE I found this yummy idea!!

In an ideal world, I would cook up a bunch of chicken on the weekends to use during the week for lunches. That would probably be the best, healthiest and most cost effective way to prepare lunches for the week. But remember in the title of my blog it says REAL life. So I am going to keep it real  &  not going to pretend that is what happens most weeks.  Regardless if I have time to pre cook chicken or not,  lunch must go on! So I have tried multiple different  chicken to make lunches. I would say most of them are okay, they are just fine and I would use them. BUT I recently found pre-packaged, pre-cooked chicken that is more than fine or okay, it is actually amazingly delicious!! There is also not a bunch of fake ingredients and fake preservatives in them. So that’s a huge plus in my book!!  Here it is…

So what I do is microwave the chicken (according to the package instructions) and then chop up the chicken into bite sized pieces. Then I add a bunch of yummy veggies to a bowl, some feta cheese and a dressing.  A new favorite dressing of mine is  Primal Kitchen Greek Dressing

Then put it all together and you get a super yummy, healthy quick lunch!!

What is great about this salad idea is that you could really use it in multiple ways by just changing a few ingredients. It could be made into a wrap, you could add it over a sweet potato, it could be made into a taco bowl over rice.  I have also made this with lunch meat deli chicken and it is still amazing.

I hope you enjoy it!

Do you have a go to quick lunch? I would love to hear about it!!

Meal Plan Monday

Anyone else a little freaked out about this eclipse thing? I kind of just want to hide in the bathroom for 2 hours until it’s over!! Regardless… meal planning must go on!  This week we are having:

Monday~ Crockpot Meal- Beef Tips with some rice and broccoli

Tuesday~ Tacos

Wednesday~ Buffalo Chicken Casserole (another one of my favorites from Paleomg)

Thursday~ Whole Chicken crockpot meal- this is a new one for me but I bought a whole chicken from a local farm  & I am going to  just”wing it” (get it 🙂 )

Friday~ Leftovers!

Saturday~ Philly cheese steaks with cauliflower rice

Sunday~ BLEATS- if you don’t know what these are you are truly missing out.  Imagine a  traditional BLT’s but you add an egg(fried) and avocado. They are pretty much one of the most amazing things you’ll ever have, so you should definitely try it if you haven’t.

Meal planning tips:

  • Have themed nights
    • For us that is Monday Crockpot meals, Taco Tuesdays and BLEATS on Sundays
    • This takes the guess work out a few nights
  • Have a list of all the meals that you make & reference it while you are meal planning
  • While you are meal planning, make your grocery list at the same time
  • If you have time, do some prepping. Even just setting aside a couple of hours to make up a bunch of taco meat, or  chop all the veggies you need for the week. You will be amazed at how much time it will save you when making dinner.
  • Having a template for meal planning has helped me so much! I have tried different things but this The Organized Family Menu Planner has been what works the best for us! It gives a place for meals, snacks, and a grocery list.

It is amazing how much smoother our whole week goes when I take the time to plan our meals for the week. What tips do you have for meal planning? What ideas work best for your household?

Bathroom Cleaning Caddy

Cleaning bathrooms is on the top of my “I don’t wanna” list… but it is one of those things that has to get done!! Having to track down all of the supplies each time makes it easier to procrastinate~ so time for a quick organizing project!
When it comes to organizing projects it is easy to spend big money! There are lots of different places to find organizing supplies. For this project I was able to find what I was looking for at The Dollar Tree!
After a quick trip- I found just what I was looking for- so I picked up 3 of them, 1 for each bathroom. Not too bad for a total of $3.00!!
Next up- time to fill the caddy’s with all the necessities! I try to think of all of the items that would be needed, so I am not having to find something mid-clean 🙂
Here are my must haves for a bathroom clean up! Wipes, magic eraser, toilet bowl cleaner, pumice stone, scrub brush, tooth brush (for hard to reach places) & gloves because bathroom cleaning is ewwww

Hooray! They all fit in the caddy & then under the sink they go… Now that all the supplies are in place- let’s see if cleaning the bathroom becomes more fun!!  (Ha Ha!!)

Anything to make the joys of scrubbing toilets a little easier is a success in my book!!  On top of that I am excited that I found the caddies for only $1 each!
When looking for a container for a project, don’t forget to keep your eyes open on clearance racks, stores like The Dollar Tree, and even Goodwill or garage sales. You never know what you might find! Back to school time is a good time of year to find these kind of caddies- so keep your eyes open for some good deals!

My new blog

Hello friends! I have been blogging for a few years pretty casually and now I really want to do it more consistently. So I decided to move to a different platform- wordpress because I have heard about how great it is for blogging. So here I go, my first blog from my new and improved platform. So far, I feel like I am learning a new language, but I will get the hang of it!! I chose my new blog name of Living a Real Life, Real Home because in encompasses what I want to blog about. It seems that the things I enjoy are- sometimes meal planning, other times it is DIY, maybe a little organization here and there. Do people want to read about this? I guess we will find out! But I enjoy blogging about it & if I help someone or give them a new idea in the process- that’s super exciting!

What I do is definitely not perfect and I feel like I am constantly trying to just figure out how best to run my household- you know, the day to day stuff. Managing 2 teenagers and their ever growing schedule, as well as work and a husband who likes to take me on lots of adventures in life! I am trying to get better at stepping out of my comfort zone and try new things. Like the other day, I realized I have never mowed a lawn in my life. My husband likes to mow and it just hasn’t ever came up but it kind of bothers me that I have never done it. So I did it… I mean partially- & I know how to just in case I ever need to!

So if you check out my blog- you will probably notice me changing things here and there for awhile as I figure this new system all out. Hopefully it is a fun place to learn and share about REAL LIFE and running a REAL HOME!  Please let me know what you think!
